The February 19, 2019 PDM was a tour of TECH™ headquartered in Johnstown, OH.  They are a global leader in tire and tube repairs and wheel service products.

Here APICS members are seated in the training facility attending a presentation of the company, its products and history.  Founded in 1939 by Charles Cornell, TECH™ pioneered a cold vulcanization process in the U.S. that repaired tires without heat, revolutionizing the tire industry.

Our hosts at Tech were very knowledgeble and provided a great presentation and tour.

  Today, TECH™ produces a full range of tire repair materials including radial and bias repair units, plug-patch combination repairs, inserts, RFID tags, vulcanizing cements and related chemicals, uncured cushion gum, and extruded rubber. Tech provides intense two week training to their distributers at their Tech University facility.

In the training facility there are bays where distributors can learn how to correctly apply products to real tires.

Here we see additional tools used to apply products and repair tires.

The tour inclued a walk-though of their various warehouse spaces.

The warehouse was very clean and organized.  Most of the inventory could be accessed at floor level.

Here is a warehouse area where ceilings had an additional treatment applied because volatile chemicals were stored.  Additionally the entry way had a slope to contain any spills and had firedoors that would drop in the event of a blaze.

Seen here is another area were inventory is easily reached from the floor.  There were also staging areas for shipments all around the world.  Some shipments would go in containers, many domestic shipments would go LTL and fast turn-around, small shipments would go UPS.  Additionally, they were stocking up for an upcoming industry show that would place a heavy, sudden demand on their capacity.
